Health officials discuss first severe allergic reaction to AstraZeneca vaccine in Georgia

Georgian Health officials and Covid-19 vaccine experts gathered to discuss the first case of alleged anaphylactic reaction developed after the AstraZeneca shot.

The meeting attendees will also discuss whether to suspend vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine in the country.

A 27-year-old nurse developed an alleged anaphylactic reaction after receiving the first shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the Akhaltsikhe region of Georgia. She has been hospitalized in Tbilisi in a critical condition.

Georgian doctor in the US, Zurab Guruli, echoed today’s case and said any vaccine could rarely trigger an anaphylactic reaction.

“Developing an allergic reaction does not mean the vaccine is of low quality. It is unbelievable immorality and even unprofessionalism on the part of medical staff to gloatingly speak about this unfortunate case. It is practically impossible to avoid such a rare side effect during mass vaccinations,” Guruli wrote on his Facebook page.
