GPB kicks off free pre-election advertising of electoral subjects for local polls

On August 13, 2021, the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) began broadcasting free pre-election advertisements submitted by electoral subjects running for the local assembly (the Sakrebulo) and mayoral posts in the October 2 local self-government polls.

Based on the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting, the GPB will broadcast a pre-election advertisement submitted by each qualified electoral subject free of charge equally distributed between these subjects and without discrimination during the electoral campaign. GPB will also allocate airtime for the pre-election advertisement of all other parties and electoral blocs, in addition to qualified electoral subjects.

October 2, 2021, local election-related information is available on the GPB official website 1tv.ge. In addition, GPB plans to create a special web platform and will regularly update it during the pre-election period.

Eight qualified electoral subjects are exercising their right for free of charge pre-election advertisement broadcasted by the GPB First Channel as of August 13. Only one electoral candidate among them wished to use free airtime on the Georgian Radio.
