Girchi-More Freedom urges US Ambassador for personal sanctions against gov't

Zurab Japaridze, leader of the Girchi-More Freedom party, said the opposition urged for the imposition of personal sanctions against Georgian governmental officials as an option for pressure during a meeting with US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Erika Olson.

According to Zurab Japaridze, the opposition discoursed current political developments, recent municipal elections, the judicial system and the circumstances facing the jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.

“I told the diplomats my viewpoints about the way out and possible steps they could have taken. Obviously, we have to do the main thing. I urged them to publicly and clearly tell the truth about what is going on in Georgia, which is the government that deviated from the Euro-Atlantic course,” Zurab Japaridze said.

Girchi-More Freedom leader also urged people to take to the street because nobody but people would resolve the situation in Georgia following the rigged elections. “You have to take action to change the reality or remain Ivanishvili’s slaves. It is up to you to decide,” Zurab Japaridze wrote on Facebook.
