Passing of Georgia Support Act by the US House of Representatives unanimously reaffirms the high-level partnership with our strategic partner, – Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia made the regarding the statement.

“Successful voting and passing of Georgia Support Act by the US House of Representatives unanimously reaffirm the high-level partnership with our strategic partner. I would like to point out some major points highlighted in the act,” -the Prime Minister said.

According to Prime Minister, the first of all this is Georgia’s independence and territorial integrity.

“Act outlines the need to strengthen the security context of Georgia, the protection of human rights in the occupied territories. We appreciate the proposal on the possibility to impose appropriate sanctions,” – the Prime Minister said.

According to the Prime Minister, the economic component of the document, which stresses on the intensification of work in the direction of the Free Trade regime, is very important.

The US House of Representatives unanimously approved a bipartisan Georgia Support Act on October 22. The document will be submitted to the Senate and then to the US President for signing after which it will be enacted.

The bipartisan act highlights the strong support of the US to Georgia’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and initiates imposition of sanctions against persons who violate human rights across Georgia’s occupied regions. The bill underlines US-Georgia cooperation in defence and security spheres and calls on the Congress for taking active steps for the launch of negotiations for signing a free trade agreement between the U.S. and Georgia. The bill also backs Georgia’s aspiration to become integrated into the Euro-Atlantic and European structures and the right of Georgian citizens to freely determine their future by choosing foreign and security policies independently.
