Gia Murgulia: Based upon pre-election monitoring report, interested persons can accurately perceive First Channel's degree of impartiality

“According to the pre-election monitoring report, the interested persons can accurately perceive a degree of impartiality of Georgian First Channel, which, I think, is beyond doubt,” said Gia Murgulia, a member of the Public Broadcaster Board of Trustees.

“The board is pleased with the presented report as it is quite obvious that the Public Broadcaster and ‘Moambe’ cover everything regarding elections. Whether they are qualified or unqualified subjects, everyone is given time to address the public and present their vision,” noted Murghulia.

Earlier today, Tinatin Berdzenishvili, Director General of Georgian First Channel, has presented a pre-election monitoring report of the news program ‘Moambe’ to GBP Board of Trustees.

In line with the practice of international organizations, the topics and subjects are being measured as follows:

  • Covered topic according to the allotted time;
  • Covered subject according to the allotted time;
  • Direct/indirect coverage of the subject according to the allotted time;
  • Coverage of the subject by tone (positive, negative, neutral).

In addition to the election subjects, the report presents the results of the activities of the Government of Georgia, the President, the local self-government, the Central Election Commission, international organizations and the non-governmental sector.
