The Georgian side has offered Germany to put Georgia on the list of safe countries, – Eka Machavariani, Head of the International Relations Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, told journalists.

Machavariani talked about the visit of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Nino Javakhadze to Germany and Austria.

“Deputy Minister Nino Javakhadze met with the Minister of Interior of North Westphalia, as well as officials in Austria, where she proposed Georgia’s initiatives regarding the change of a surname as well as strengthening of the institute of police attaches, etc.

The figures of asylum seekers are growing, but they are not alarming. As for specific cooperation plans, we offered this legislative initiative and exchange of information, which was welcomed by both the German and Austrian sides.

We have not planned specific steps. We offered Germany to grant Georgia a status of a safe country. We already have achieved this with Austria,”  – Machavariani said.

According to her, talks are underway on the issue of granting the status of a secure country to Georgia with Sweden as well.
