Georgian PM, EU Special Representative hold meeting

Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia met with Toivo Klaar, Co-Chair of the Geneva International Discussions, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, and the Crisis in Georgia. The latest regional security developments and challenges were in focus.

The head of government noted that the recent regional changes intensify the challenges in the occupied territories. Therefore, the Georgian government should implement a more coordinated and effective policy toward occupied territories. The meeting focused on the significance of the ECHR judgment in the Georgia v. Russia war case and the need to use it in the de-occupation process.

The sides discussed the security and humanitarian situation in the occupied regions of Georgia. The need to boost the incident prevention and response mechanism, the Geneva International Discussion platforms, was emphasized. Giorgi Gakharia thanked Toivo Klaar for the EU engagement in the peaceful conflict-resolution process and the impersonal international monitoring carried out by the EUMM.
