Georgian Parliament Speaker meets Turkish counterpart

On Monday, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili held a meeting with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Şentop and his delegation.

The parties discussed the friendly and partnership relations, having underlined the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between two countries, and reaffirmed readiness to enhance cooperation in various fields, the Georgian Parliament press office reports.

The meeting focused on regional security issues, stressing the necessity of de-escalation in Ukraine and the prevention of war.

Shalva Papuashvili thanked Mustafa Şentop for supporting Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

After the meeting, the Speakers signed the Cooperation Document and made a joint statement.

Following the document, the parties will facilitate the enhancement of the regular contacts and the bilateral visits for the legal acts development, exchange of experience and sharing of the Parliamentary practice.

“Georgia is a strategic partner of Turkey, and the regional security and peace are crucial for us. Turkey supports the integration of Georgia into NATO and Euro-Atlantic organizations and its territorial integrity and sovereignty. We strongly declare our support at every venue,” Mustafa Şentop stated after the signing ceremony.

Shalva Papuasvhili thanked the Turkish counterpart for his visit and stated that the support of friends was paramount in these challenging times.

“I am glad that today, we signed the Cooperation Act between the Parliament of Georgia and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and agreed to contribute to the further enhancement of the strategic partnership between Georgia and Turkey, by means of this Document and through the Parliamentary diplomacy,” the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament stated.
