Georgian Foreign Ministry expresses concern over fact that occupation regime took over heights near Chorchana village

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia published a statement on recent developments along the occupation line.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry expresses particularly concerned about the fact that the forces of the occupation regime took over the heights near the village of Chorchana, installed the so-called sign “Border” and began works for checkpoint deployment.

“These are deliberate actions, aiming to push us to begin the so-called process of demarcation-delimitation. This is a futile attempt, this is unacceptable for the Georgian authorities. The internal administrative border does not require any demarcation.

It is also alarming that the occupation regime closes the occupation line in Tskhinvali, which grossly violates fundamental human rights, including the right to free movement, puts the population of the Tskhinvali region of Georgia in complete isolation and exacerbates the already difficult humanitarian situation.

Such steps only cause destabilization of the situation and undermine the peaceful efforts of the Georgian authorities and the international community.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the Russian Federation to respect its international obligations, implement the ceasefire agreement of August 12, 2008, take effective measures to de-escalate the situation and, through result-oriented participation, contribute to resolving security and humanitarian challenges within the Geneva international negotiations, ”- reads the statement.
