Georgian Armed Forces celebrate 29th anniversary of establishment

April 30 is the Day of Georgian Army. The Georgian Armed Forces celebrate the 29th anniversary of the establishment today.

In December of 1990, under the resolution of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Georgia, National Guard unit was formed which then laid the foundation of the creation of the Georgian Army.

On April 24 1991, Georgian Ministry Cabinet issued an Order on the calling up of conscripts in compulsory military service. On April 30, conscription officially launched in the army. This day became the starting point of foundation of the Georgian army.
