GD to revoke Constitutional changes initiated prior to April 19 agreement

The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party will revoke the Constitutional changes initiated prior to the April 19 EU-brokered agreement and will submit a new version to the parliament, said Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the parliamentary Education Committee.

According to Papuashvili, the European Council President Charles Michel-mediated document has to do with several issues that require constitutional changes.

“The issues include election threshold, the rule for the election of General Prosecutor and formation of a 4-member faction in the parliament. We communicated with the opposition over these issues and we plan to initiate the changes,” Papuashvili said.

Based on the EU-brokered compromise agreement reached among the Georgian political parties on April 19, the election threshold should be in the range of 0-2 per cent. According to the constitutional amendments of the GD party, the barrier is set at 3 %.
