French Minister of Internal Affairs – We will be strict with all Georgians who arrive in France for seeking asylum

Georgia was on the first place in France with the number of asylum seekers in January of 2019 and this was abnormal – Christophe Castaner, Minister of Internal Affairs of France said after the meeting with Vakhtang Gomelauri, Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs.

According to the French Minister, the number of asylum seekers has reduced for the last months by about 50% through cooperation with the Georgian side and introduction of certain mechanisms.

Castaner said that France would not change its position to pose a threat to the agreement reached between Georgia and the European Union about the introduction of a visa-free regime.

However, “We will be strict with all Georgians who arrive in France for seeking asylum and will offer asylum to only those, who indeed deserve it,” Castaner said.
