Foreign Ministry calls on Russia for stopping illegal moves against territorial integrity

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia condemns the illegal borderization process resumed by the installation of artificial barriers at Atotsi village, Kareli Municipality of Shida Kartli region, and calls on Russia for stopping illegal moves targeted against Georgia’s territorial integrity and state sovereignty.

Georgian Foreign Ministry says that the Russian Federation harshly violates fundamental norms and principles of international law. “The illegal move of Russia’s occupational regime aims at destabilization of the current situation, abridgment of free movement of locals and their isolation from the rest of Georgia. Continuation of installation of artificial barriers makes graver the humanitarian conditions of locals,” reads the statement.

Foreign Ministry summons Russia for fulfillment of commitments taken as per August 12, 2008 ceasefire agreement and pull out of armed units from Georgian territories. It also applies to the international community to give an adequate assessment to Russia’s provocative steps.

Illegal borderization process is ongoing near Atotsi village, Kareli Municipality of Shida Kartli region – State Security Service reported earlier this afternoon. The European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia is notified about the illegal activities.
