European Council President hopes for progress at tonight meeting of political actors

“I hope that tonight, we have an opportunity to progress. It does not mean that we would solve everything tonight. But, I intend to put a framework with some possible topics, some possible elements that need to be discussed and tackled on the table,” European Council President Charles Michel commented on the possible dialogue between the government and opposition at his mediation.

“My intention is not and was not just to spend one day in the marvellous country and then come back to Brussels and business as usual. We take seriously the situation in this country, and the importance of political stability. Because political stability is the basis for democratic institutions and the basis in order to tackle the different important challenges that are key for the future of Georgia. It is a place for the Prime Minister, it is a place for the opposition, but I’m ready together with our team to remain committed and be engaged with other partners, of course. This meeting in Brussels in two weeks could be an interesting moment,” Michel stated.

According to the European Council President, he invited political actors for a meeting this evening. “I invite all of you to meet tonight. It is time to move from facilitation to mediation”, Charles Michel said at a joint press conference with Georgian PM.
