EU Foreign Affairs Committee condemns occupation of Georgian territories by Russia

On December 3, the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs voted for and approved the annual report on Implementation of Defense and Security Policy in the EU submitted by Sven Mikser, a member of Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament.

According to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the document is about the EU’s role in ensuring global security, defense, and security challenges facing Eastern Partnership member states, including Georgia.

The report stresses the aggressive occupational policy of Russia across the territories of Georgia and Ukraine. The document condemns the fact that Russian armed forces continue the occupation of territories in Georgia and Ukraine, thus violating international legal norms.

The report reads that Russian troops are present in Moldova, and the Russian Federation keeps on destabilizing peace and security in the region.

The report, which is to be finally approved at a plenary session presumably in January 2021, also expresses concern over Russia’s funded misinformation campaigns in Eastern Neighborhood countries.
