EU approves COVID-19 drug remdesivir

The European Commission has approved the use of remdesivir for coronavirus patients in the EU, according to the BBC.

Remdesivir was originally developed for Ebola treatment but the scientists have found that it reduces the recovery times of people hospitalised with COVID-19.

Remdesivir has already been approved in a number of countries, including the US.

The anti-viral drug is produced by Gilead.
