EU Ambassador: All sides agree on need to move forward when it comes to the best interests of children

“We all were engaged with regard to the issue of childcare. The focuses of the discussions today were about the Ninotsminda situation,” EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell said after a meeting at the Patriarchate.

“We all were engaged with regard to the issue of childcare. The focuses of the discussions today were about the Ninotsminda situation. There was very clear agreement between all sides on the need to move forward when it comes to taking care of the best interests of all the children, those who are still in the child home and who have left it. Making sure that there is psychological and financial support and these children and their rights are fully cared of,” the ambassador said.

According to the ambassador, the discussed issue is broader than just the Ninotsminda boarding house.

“The discussions were about wider strategic objectives. The issue is broader than Ninotsmina. We have a good understanding on the priorities. Overall, I see this to be a very good starting point for moving things forward,” Carl Hartzell added.

EU Ambassador and the representatives of organizations working on children’s rights attended the meeting at the Patriarchate on Sunday.
