The draft-bill about abolishment of school graduation exams of Law on General Education will be put for voting on April 16 – Mariam Jashi, Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Education Committee said.

According to Jashi, approval of the draft-project was not possible due to technical problems and ongoing hearing of the report from Koba Gvenetadze, President of National Bank of Georgia (NBG) on April 5.

Natia Zedgenidze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports said on April 5 that regardless of the failure of the draft-bill about abolishment of graduation exams in the parliament, students would not face problems and that the bill would be put back on the agenda.

Zedgenidze explained that the bill on making changes into Law on General Education was submitted to the parliament in a speedy manner and that repeated balloting was feasible with full adherence of the set regulations and rules in the nearest future.

The Parliament of Georgia did not support the legislative initiative on abolishment of school graduation exams with its final, third reading today. The draft failed to get votes as just 54 lawmakers voted in favor of the draft law and there were not enough votes for it to pass.
