Moscow hopes that the first meeting of the Georgian and Russian foreign ministers after 2008 will lay the foundation for constructive dialogue – Russian President’s Spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.

Peskov noted that the meeting turned out to be “very painful” for Tbilisi, which was followed by “hysterics” from the Georgian capital that was “not an adequate reaction.”

Asked whether Moscow had received any signal from official Tbilisi about its readiness for dialogue, Peskov responded: “We saw, unfortunately, a signal of the crowd and we saw the signal of the authorities, which turned a blind eye to this crowd, when our lawmakers could hardly leave Tbilisi. We saw these signals and we didn’t like them. Let us hope that we will live without such signals in the future,” Peskov said.

He said that President Putin appreciates the historically friendly relations between Russia and Georgia. The Kremlin, as well as all Russia, wants to restore good relations, but official Tbilisi creates problems.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Davit Zalkaliani met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 26.
