Director of Peri Company: We entered gorge only with three patrol police cars and if not additional police units, it would be ended with the worst results

We entered the gorge only with three patrol police cars and if not the additional police units, believe me, that the process would be ended with the worst results, –  Lasha Iordanishvili, the Executive Director of Peri company made this statement.

According to him, the locals were informed about the construction of Hydro Power Plant in the Pankisi Gorge and as Iordanishvili noted, no one protested in that regard before.

“When we started building a Hydro Power Plant, we were holding public discussions for a year and a half. The fact was that when we have started delivering pipes in February of the last year,  the population was absolutely informed and nobody had been protesting for months. A 30-member council was created which was an adversary and we did not make a decision without the consent of their absolute majority. After that, when well-known non-governmental organizations involved in the process and they led it to the tension which we saw yesterday. I personally lay responsibility for this tension on the non-governmental organization, in particular on “Green Alternative”, – Lasha  Iordanishvili stated.

Clashes took place in the Pankisi  Gorge yesterday. Protesters threw stones and sticks at the special force units. The law enforcers used tear gas and rubber bullets. Locals of Pankisi Gorge protested against the construction of the Hydro Power Plant Khadori 3.
