Deputy Prosecutor General: Georgia fully meets anti-trafficking standards

According to the June 25, 2020 report by the US Department of State, Georgia fully meets anti-trafficking standards. Georgia is the only country in the Eastern Partnership included in the first basket. Deputy Prosecutor General of Georgia presented the 2020 report of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia to the Prosecutorial Council.

The General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia set up a working group to detect, prevent, and suppress labor trafficking, Natia Merebashvili reported. The group includes representatives of various state agencies. The working group aims to coordinate the work of state agencies to ensure an effective fight against trafficking.

“The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia pursues a strict policy towards human traffickers. Efficient procedural guidance backed by the qualified support of the state prosecution in the court is provided on all possible cases of trafficking,” said the Deputy Prosecutor.

Four traffickers faced criminal proceedings under Article 1432 of the Criminal Code, and three juvenile women identified as victims in 2020. To further improve the fight against trafficking, Natia Merebashvili noted, a new training course for prosecutors Fight against Trafficking and Protection of Victims was launched within the Council of Europe HELP program.
