Davit Zalkaliani met Turkish counterpart in New York

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Davit Zalkaliani held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu in New York.

According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, the meeting touched upon the strategic partnership between Georgia and Turkey, which is reflected in multi-year successful cooperation in various fields.

The Georgian side thanked Turkey for supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as supporting European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the country.

As Turkey’s Foreign Minister noted, Ankara will continue to support Georgia in both bilateral and international formats.

In the context of bilateral relations, the sides stressed the importance of the High-Level Georgia-Turkey Strategic Cooperation Council. At the meeting, the sides noted the involvement of Georgia and Turkey in international transit and energy projects and the important role that Georgia and Turkey are playing in the development of the Southern Corridor.

In this regard, the sides underlined the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project and the significance of its implementation. The Georgian side welcomed the opening of the Trans-Atlantic Pipeline TANAP project.

The Minister provided Turkish colleague with information about human rights violations in the occupied regions of Georgia and also spoke about the Georgian government’s peace initiative “Step to a Better Future”. FM Zalkaliani thanked Turkey for supporting Georgia’s non-recognition policy.

The sides expressed their willingness to cooperate in the future.
