Davit Kirkitadze, one of the leaders of the National Movement Party has been released from the court hall.

The judge of Gurjaani District Court made the decision that was hailed by members of the National Movement party present in the court hall with applause. Earlier this afternoon, Kirkitadze admitted guiltiness and apologized to the Police.

Kirkitadze was accused of assaulting a police officer during the Velistsikhe incident on December 16, when several hundred opposition activists confronted police officers blocking their way to the President Salome Zurabishvili’s inauguration venue in Telavi.

The District Court of Gurjaani sentenced Davit Kirkitadze, one of the leaders of the opposition United National Movement Party, to pretrial custody on December 20, 2018.
