Culture Ministry to return paintings to Art Museum and National Gallery

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs of Georgia returns the paintings, taken from repositories in 2010, to the Art Museum and the National Gallery.

Ministry found all the exhibits, taken from the State Museum of Art and the National Gallery during the last two decades, in its building. The initiative belongs to Minister Tea Tsulukiani.

The state institution returns 12 paintings to museums.

“Seven paintings should be kept in the Ministry based on documents. However, we could not found them. We have a factual assumption that these paintings are not lost. We will start the process of returning them from the Czech Republic. As it turned out, they were taken out of the country in 2010 by the leadership of the then Ministry of Culture,” Minister Tea Tsulukiani stated.

The Ministry will exhibit the paintings at the Ministry building today.
