COVID-19 vaccine trial kicks off in Seattle

The first clinical trial of a coronavirus vaccine will take place at the Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute in Seattle, The Associated Press reported. The trial is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Testing will begin with 45 young, healthy volunteers with different doses of shots. As AP added, there are no chance participants could get infected from the shots, because they don’t contain the virus itself.

The clinical trial aims to check that the vaccines show no alarming side effects, and prepare for larger tests.

The validation of any potential vaccine takes around 18 months.
