Court to annul penalty imposed to Justice Ministry

Tbilisi City Court annulled the penalty imposed by the State Inspector’s Service to Justice Ministry for distributing the material depicting personal data of jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.

Judge Tsitsino Rokhvadze cancelled the 500-GEL fine imposed on Justice Ministry. Representatives of the State Inspector’s Service objected to the decision and plan to file a complaint.

The State Inspector fined the Ministry of Justice by 500 GEL and the Penitentiary Service with 2 000 GEL for disclosing Mikheil Saakashvili’s personal data. Moreover, Justice Ministry and the Penitentiary Service were instructed to delete Saakashvili’s personal data record from their official websites and Facebook pages.

On December 11, 2021, State Inspector’s Service called on Justice Ministry, Penitentiary Service to stop video footage release depicting personal data of jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.

Special Penitentiary Service released the video footage depicting the transfer of jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili to the N18 Gldani prison infirmary. The Service said that due to high public interests, it decided to publish the video that shows how the ex-president physically assaulted the staff and damaged medical equipment.
