Court discussing complaint of election observer organization

The court is discussing the complaint of election observer organization that has to do with the demand to abolish results of the 19th and 20th polling stations of Tianeti.

The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) will defend interests of Tianeti mayoral candidate Tamaz Mechiauri, who is disputing the decision of the Tianeti election commission to reinstate void ballot papers. Ana Natsvlishvili, chairman of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association, said the results have been changed.

“The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association got involved in the dispute and represents the interests of Mr. Tamaz Mechiauri, as the results of the local self-government elections in the Tianeti region, as confirmed by the facts, have been changed by interference.

We think that there were serious violations of the electoral legislation and alleged criminal offense. Therefore, today we’re filing a suit with the court and we are asking for annulment of the two orders passed by the Tianeti election commission. We also appeal to the Prosecutor’s Office to get interested in these facts,” Natsvlishvili said.
