Carl Hartzell – We will continue pressuring to achieve opening of Akhalgori passes

Death of a woman who lived in Akhalgori is yet another signal about the current disturbing situation – Carl Hartzell, EU Ambassador to Georgia said about the death of a 70-year-old woman in Akhalgori.

EU Ambassador said that refusal to give the permission for crossing the so-called administrative border line became the reason of the woman’s death.

The ambassador expressed condolence to the deceased woman’s family and said that members of the EUMM were at present to probe into the matter.

“We will continue pressuring to achieve opening of Akhalgori passes. We hope that relevant institutions and representatives will be constructive in these efforts,” Hartzell said.

Nugzar Tinikashvili, Akhalgori Municipal Governor reported that due to closure of the so-called checkpoint, a 70-year-old woman died in Tskhinvali because she was not provided by medical assistance. According to Tinikashvili, locals of occupied Akhalgori fear that if they get ill, they will not be rendered medical assistance.
