Batumi shopping mall tenants rally for their business to open

Tenants of a shopping center located in the former Universam building in Pushkin Street in Batumi held a protest rally.

Representatives of the indoor market demand the mall to open and say that this facility is the only one in Batumi that has not resumed today.

“We are about 200 tenants striving to save ourselves. All the announcements say the shopping malls open today. We were supposed to open on New Year’s Eve and have not been allowed to work. We have families to support. If all the malls open, what have we done wrong? Everything is open today, except for us. The administration told us we would open on February 15th,” said Eter Beridze, one of the protesters.

Retailers will meet with a representative of the Labor Inspectorate to find out whether they can resume work.

The relaxation of restrictions in Batumi starts today following the epidemiological situation. In particular, the municipal transport, schools, shops, and shopping centers will resume.
