As a result of motions filed by Prosecutor’s Office requesting to review the judgements of convictions, the court has announced not guilty verdicts into four different cases of political prisoners: Beka Petriashvili, Zviad Shinjikashvili, Bakur Kighuradze and Gia Salukvadze, – the Chief Prosecutor’s Office reports.
According to agency, Prosecutor’s Office conducted a thorough and objective investigation into the cases, in particular: new witnesses were interrogated, dozens of investigative and procedural actions were conducted, investigative and court case materials were studied, new evidence and facts were obtained. Based on these activities the offenses as if committed by the convicts were completely excluded.
Evidence obtained in the course of repeated investigation into cases confirmed that the criminal acts of which the convicts had been deemed culpable never occurred, therefore, Prosecutor’s Office has issued decrees regarding violation of the convicts’ rights, on the basis whereof applied to court with the request to review judgements due to the newly revealed circumstances.
