Azerbaijani parliament elects female speaker

The first plenary meeting of Azerbaijan’s Parliament of the 6th convocation elected the first female Speaker Sahiba Gafarova with 116 votes today.

The chairman, vice-chairmen of the Parliament, as well as chairmen and vice-chairmen of parliamentary committees were elected at the meeting, as reported by Trend news agency.

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan were held on February 9. The ruling party has more than 70 MPs in the 125-seat supreme legislative body.
