Azerbaijan brings forward date of presidential election to April 11

Azerbaijan has brought forward the date of a planned presidential election to April 11 from Oct. 17, a decree issued by the office of Azeri President Ilham Aliyev said on Monday.

Aliyev, in power since succeeding his father in 2003, has been nominated as the ruling party’s candidate for the election for what would be his fourth term, as reported by Reuters.

The presidential election that had been due in the fall was moved up to April. Officials said the move was made because the country would be busy with various high-profile events at the end of 2018.
