Archil Talakvadze: Georgian Dream fulfils obligations envisaged by the March 8 Agreement

“The Georgian Dream government is distinguished by the fact that we have been and remain committed to the democratic tradition, whereby even under the state of emergency we continue to work on issues that are aimed at strengthening democratic governance,” the Chair of the Georgian Parliament, Archil Talakvadze said at today’s briefing.

Talakvadze noted that “more than two months have passed since political parties signed the political agreement in the presence of ambassadors on the 8th of March.” He added that “Georgian Dream carries on fulfiling obligations, but the opposition has stepped up its efforts in terms of the inappropriate politicization of justice.”

“As you know, by signing this agreement, each side undertook the obligation to introduce a new electoral system for the 2020 parliamentary elections and to ensure the avoidance of the inappropriate politicization of justice. The Georgian Dream has been thorough in the fulfilment of all obligations envisaged by the March 8 Agreement. Unfortunately, the opposition has stepped up its efforts in terms of the inappropriate politicization of justice since the day the agreement was signed,” Talakvadze stressed.
