Anti Namakhvani HPP protesters, representatives of the Rioni Guards movement are meeting with Tsageri locals. They call on all regions to participate in a large-scale protest planned for May 23 in Tbilisi.

“With unity, we have to force the government to take into consideration the demand of people,” said Mirza Nozadze, one of the protesters.

Varlam Goletiani, the organizer of Anti-Namakhvani protests said that meetings with locals would take place in all regions. “We will introduce people with our plans and comprise all cities,” Goletiani claimed.

The protest against Namakhvani HPP construction has been underway in western Georgia for months. Earlier, the Georgian government announced that the construction of the Namakhvani hydropower plant (HPP) would be suspended for 9 to 12 months until the environmental, geological, and seismological surveys are reviewed.

The Energy Community Secretariat’s Dispute Resolution and Negotiation Centre will engage in the mediation process related to the Namakhvani HPP construction project.
