Anti-Namakhvani HPP construction protesters are gathered at the iron dams set up at Gumati village.

The protests organizer Varlam Goletiani introduced his supports with future action plan.

According to Goletiani, anti-Namakhvani protesters blocked five roads leading to the Rioni Gorge.

Goletiani said that reportedly ENKA Company intended to deploy heavy vehicles in the gorge. He added that the protesters would continue with clapping hands on the iron dams. The protesters would relocate to ENKA office in Kutaisi on June 7.

The protests against Namakhvani HPP construction have been underway in western Georgia for almost six months. The Georgian government suspended the HPP construction for 9 to 12 months until the environmental, geological, and seismological surveys are reviewed. Nevertheless, local protesters plan to continue rallies. They believe the HPP would harm the environment and would be constructed anyway, which they oppose.
