Andrey Rudenko – Situation in border regions should be secure

Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said that Russia is interested in the work of the Group on Incidents Prevention and Response Mechanisms (IPRM) though this mechanism was not working effectively.

Rudenko told Georgian journalists at the 50th round of Geneva International Discussions that IPRM format had to be effective since “it deals with important issues that serve interests of ordinary people.”

“We want this mechanism to work in full capacity. Our colleagues from Abkhazia and Ossetia believe that there are some conditions that have to be met. We hope that everything will be all right. It is necessary that the situation in border regions is stable and secure. This is in everybody’s interest – Georgia, Abkhazia, Ossetia and Russia – because we border with these regions,” Rudenko said.
