Amiran Gamkrelidze: Opinion that nicotine protects against coronavirus is myth and trick

Tobacco aggravates coronavirus infection, smokers are more vulnerable, it more easily develops various complications, including, unfortunately, fatal outcome, – said Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control of Georgia.

Gamkrelidze spoke about the effects of tobacco consumption at a FB-live press conference dedicated to World No Tobacco Day.

“I would like to emphasize once again that tobacco aggravates the infection. Smokers are more vulnerable, they are more likely to have various complications, including, unfortunately, a fatal outcome”, – said Amiran Gamkrelidze.
