Afgan Mukhtarli released from prison for two days

Azerbaijan’s penitentiary service confirms that the Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, who was sentenced to 6 years in jail, has been released from prison temporary for two days. The edition Haqqin.az released the regarding information.

According to the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan, Afgan Mukhtarli was allowed to attend religious service to be held on the 40th day from the death of his relatives in Zakatala.

Information about the death of sister, niece and nephew of Afgan Mukhtarli was released in late December. According to local media gas leakage presumably led to the tragedy.

Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, who went missing from Tbilisi on May 29, 2017 and was arrested in Baku a day later on charges of illegal border crossing, smuggling money and police disobedience. Mukhtarli does not plead guilty in none of the charges presented against him.
