Marina Kaljurand: We urge ruling party and opposition to find a solution acceptable to both sides, Georgian people deserve fair elections

I want to call on the ruling party and the opposition to meet and speak with each other, this is not about your parties, but about the future of your people – Marina Kaljurand, a member of the European Parliament from Estonia said.

The MEP notes that she is closely observing developments in Georgia and its European integration process.

“I am a former Estonian Foreign Minister, a former Estonian Ambassador to six countries. Georgia is very close to my heart, which means that I am closely following the developments in Georgia, its European integration. Therefore, I think that I better understand the positive aspects and the challenges, because before joining the EU, my country followed the same path. Today, my country is lucky that it can take full advantage of EU membership. Looking at the latest events, of course, there is a certain disappointment. I made a statement after Georgia failed to adopt the electoral amendments. It was not a disappointment of the European Parliament, it was a disappointment because of your people. At the moment, we are still supportive and urge the ruling party and the opposition to find a solution acceptable to both sides since the Georgian people deserve fair elections. The 2020 elections will be a turning point for the Georgian people. These elections will determine your future, reforms and integration. Therefore, I would like to ask both – the opposition and the ruling party – to return to the format of dialogue. It concerns the future of your people” – Marina Kaljurand said.
