23 arrested in special operation targeting Georgian mafia in Spain

The 23 people have been detained as a result of a special operation against carried out Georgian mafia in Spain, – the Spanish media reports. Earlier it was reported that 16 people were arrested.

According to media reports, the sister-in-law of criminal authority Lasha Shushanashvili is among the detainees, as she had been getting 6 thousand euros a month from the criminal group. It is noteworthy that the woman was arrested in 2010 too and was sentenced to four years in prison.

The large-scale operation was launched against the Georgian mafia in Madrid this morning. Reports say the criminal group is suspected of robbery and money laundering.  According to El Periodico publication, Georgian mafia is one of the deep-rooted in Europe.
