A total of 1859 Georgian citizens applied to EU member states with the request to grant the asylum in January 2018, – the EU’s asylum agency reports.

According to the Agency, this is the highest monthly figure since 2014.

Information exchange systems for asylum seekers include EU countries, as well as Norway and Switzerland.

The information base includes the data received from EU member states as well as from Norway and Switzerland.

According to the European Agency, number of applicants from Georgia has increased since September 2017. The January‘s figure is twice higher in comparison to the data fixed in September 2017.

A total of 53 175 people asked EU for granting of asylum in January 2018, which is 8% more than in December 2017.
