TSU Rector resigns from post

Lado Papava, Rector of Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University (TSU) has resigned from post after renewed, continued and persistent protest wave of students and representatives of self-governance.

Papava applied to Academic Council with a letter of resignation. The Council has already satisfied the application.

Papava will officially leave post on May 1. Before that elections of acting rector will be held. The authorities will be terminated to Academic Council before July 1 as well.

Papava initially refused to quit post. However, he changed his decision to evade escalation of the situation.

The students stopped protesting. Seven students launched a hunger strike on March 29. The students representing the so-called Room #115 held a meeting with already resigned Rector. The meeting was closed for the media.

Papava served on the post almost during 3 years. He was elected by 10-member Academic Council in August 2013.
