Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili gave an interview to CNN, where he talked about Georgia’s European aspirations and ongoing reforms.
“Georgia is Europe. Europe is a home for Georgia. Standards of democracy and human rights are protected there and exactly this is the aim of the Georgian people. We don’t want the EU or NATO to be directed against anyone”, he said.
He also noted that 25 % of the Georgian territory is occupied by Russia and added that Georgia must show readiness for peaceful resolution of conflicts. “On the other hand, it will not happen at the expense of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty”, he said.
To the journalist’s question of whether Russia is the major danger for Georgia, Kvirikashvili answered: “We hope that the next steps will be aimed at defusing the tension in order to continue development in our country”.
The CNN journalist also talked about the abolition of visas for Iranian citizens and asked the PM of whether this is a secure and efficient way for entering the Iranian growing market.
“I think this must be very interesting for European investors, as there is a country in the region which offers them an opportunity for communicating with countries beyond the region. Georgia and its infrastructure must be properly ready for this”, said the PM.
