Several people detained for infant trafficking

The Investigative Service of the Finance Ministry has detained Director of Rustavi Maternity House , Deputy Director and one of the founders of “New Maternity Center”. Six people will stand trial on charges of complicity in a crime except the three.
As an investigation has determined those detained offered the pregnant women monetary compensation to abandon their infants and provided for their adoption by third parties. The Investigative service has revealed two cases of child trafficking, one for 3,000 GEL and the second for 5,000 GEL.
Investigation is in progress according to sub-paragraphs B and C of the 1432nd article of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which carries 14 to 17 years of imprisonment.
