Tamara Gachechiladze performed with renewed version of "Keep the Faith" at Gala Concert to celebrate Visa Liberalization

Tamara Gachechiladze - Georgian participant of 2017 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) sang the renewed version of the song "Keep the Faith" at the Grand Gala Concert, which was held at the European Square to celebrate visa liberalization in Georgia. Presentation of a video clip for the Georgian entry song "Keep the Faith" will be held in the nearest future. It will be aired by the First Channel of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB). Authors of the song "Keep the Faith" are Tamara Gachechiladze and Anri Jokhadze. Director of the video is Temur Kvirkvelia.Tamara Gachechiladze will take part in the First Semi-Final of 2017 ESC, to be held on May 9.The 2017 ESC will be held in Kiev's International Exhibition Centre. The semi-finals will take place on Tuesday 9 and Thursday 11 May, with the grand final on Saturday 13 May.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko congratulated the Georgian Prime Minister and the citizens of Georgia on the activation of visa-free travel regime."We do our best to keep pace with you," - Petro Poroshenko told Giorgi Kvirikashvili.Ukrainian President has hosted the heads of governments of the GUAM countries.The main topic of the forum is the enhancing and deepening the cooperation within the GUAM.Georgia's Prime Minister is taking part in  the meeting of the GUAM country leaders in Kiev.It is only through unified efforts that we will be able to empower not only GUAM but our states as well-we must realize what we want to achieve together with the help of the existing format, because success lies primarily in our consistent and coordinated cooperation, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated in his speech at the GUAM Meeting of Heads of State.The Head of Georgian Government thanked his Ukrainian counterpart for hospitality and expressed hope that the meeting would encourage stronger political and sectoral cooperation within the organization.

Visa-free regime for Georgia to be activated on March 28

Georgian citizens will be able to enjoy visa-free travel in the Schengen countries from tomorrow, March 28. Visa-free regime has its rules and regulations.  Georgian citizens holding biometric passports will be able to travel visa-free to the EU/Schengen countries for 90 days within a 180-day period. In case of violation of the terms the citizen will be considered as illegal and the readmission procedure will be launched. Some restrictions will be imposed.  The persons, who violate the visa-free travel rules, will be banned to enter the Schengen area for a period of 5 years, also they may be fined.Various cultural activities are being held to celebrate visa liberalization in Tbilisi. The Georgian and the EU flags will be lit up and a grand gala concert will be held in the European Square today. At the end of the concert, which will start at 21:00, celebratory fireworks will be displayed. Georgia is the first country in South Caucasus and the second country among Eastern Partnership initiative countries where visa-free regime is activated.Dialogue on EU-Georgia Visa Liberalization was launched in June 2012.  The European Commission presented the Georgian Government with an action plan on visa liberalization in February 2013.  In December, 2015, the European Commission considered that Georgia had made the necessary progress and confirmed that Georgia had met all the required benchmarks. On February 2, 2017, European Parliament adopted the proposal on visa liberalization for Georgia at the plenary session. The proposal was approved with 553 votes in favor, 66 against and 28 abstentions.

President signs law on secret wiretapping

Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili has signed a law on secret wiretapping. President's Parliamentary Secretary Ana Dolidze made the regarding statement at the briefing held at the Presidental Administration today. "Despite the fact that the Parliament did not consider the President's motivated observations, the law on wiretapping, the President respects the decision of the Constitutional Court, and therefore, to be signed the law, which had been passed by the Parliament”, said Ana Dolidze.The law was vetoed by the President several days ago, but the Parliament overrode the veto. The law will take effect on 31 March.

The next round of internationally mediated Geneva negotiations will be held on March 28-29. The members of the Georgian Delegation have already departed for Switzerland. The Georgian delegation will raise several issues during the meeting; among them: frequent abductions at the occupational line and facts of discrimination on ethnic grounds as well as the decision of Abkhazian de facto government on closing the passes along the so called border. Ahead the negotiations the Georgian side assessed the statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry as provocative. After adopting a regarding resolution about human rights violations at the occupied territories by the relevant department of United Nations, the Russian Foreign Ministry called the document politically motivated and accused the Georgian side of trying to sabotage before the forthcoming round of talks.

Chief Prosecutor’s Office requests to postpone the pretrial hearing into the Archpriest Giorgi Mamaladze case. Tbilisi City Court will discuss the motion filed by Prosecutor’s Office today.The prosecutor explained that the expertise material is in a large amount and the examination has not been completed yet.Prosecutor says that after the examination a number of procedures have to be conducted - the necessary investigative activities as well as questioning of witnesses.Archpriest and Head of Patriarchate’s Property Management Service was detained on February 10, 2017, at Tbilisi International Airport before his departure to Germany. According to Prosecutor's Office poisonous substance - sodium cyanide, kept in a concealed manner, was seized upon the search of his luggage. The investigation continues under Articles 18-108 and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.  In addition, the investigation is ongoing on the charge of  keeping weapon illegally.

Latvian President Raimonds Vējonis arrived in Georgia on a state visit today. Raimonds Vējonis arrived in Georgia for a three-day state visit together with his wife Iveta Vējonis. The guests are hosted by the President of Georgia and the first lady.The official welcoming ceremony will be held at the Presidential Palace tomorrow.Face to face and extended meetings will be held with President Margvelashvili, after which a joint press conference will be held. Bilateral documents will be signed as well. Raimonds Vējonis will lay a wreath at the memorial of heroes and will hold a working dinner with the Parliament Speaker.On March 28 the presidents of Latvia and Georgia will attend the Georgia-Latvia friendly football match.On March 29, the Georgian and Latvian Presidents will visit the occupation line, after which they will leave for Kvareli and open a Latvian investment project.The Latvian President’s visit Georgia will end on March 30.

Prime Minister to take part in GUAM meeting today

Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili will take part in the meeting of the GUAM country leaders in Kiev today. A signing ceremony will be held during the meeting, which will be followed by a press-conference. The GUAM leaders will also participate in a business forum, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Georgian side will be represented by 20 companies, including transport, construction, distribution and pharmacy companies.Participants of the first panel of the event will discuss the prospects of the GUAM Free Trade Zone, while the GUAM transport corridor will be considered at the second panel. During the visit, the guests will be hosted by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman. The Head of the Georgian Government will hold bilateral meetings during the visit. He will hold meetings with the Ukrainian and Moldovan counterparts.

Belarus protesters defy ban to march against 'parasite tax'

Thousands of people have defied a ban to protest in Belarus against a so-called "social parasites" tax on the under-employed.Protesters shouted "fascists!" at riot police. Dozens of activists and journalists have been arrested. There have been weeks of sporadic protests against a $230 (£185) levy on those unemployed for six months.President Alexander Lukashenko has suspended the tax this year but insisted it would not be scrapped. He says it instills discipline in the work-shy but protesters say it punishes those who cannot find a job, BBC reports.Organisers called the protest Freedom Day, evoking the independent Belarus that lasted just six months after the First World War, in 1918.The march in the capital Minsk took place on the 99th anniversary of the proclamation of the Belarusian People's Republic.Demonstrators tried to march down one of the major streets in Minsk, but were blocked by police who began arresting them and journalists covering the protest.

Two days left before enactment of visa-free regime with EU.From March 28 Georgian citizens will be able to travel to Europe without visa.Various cultural  activities will be held to celebrate visa liberalization in Tbilisi on March 26-27. According to Tbilisi City Hall, the renewed Agmashenebeli Avenue will be decorated on March 26.Throughout the day the guests on the European Street will be treated by Culinary Academy chef cooks with both Georgian and European dishes. From 12:00 am Georgia DJs - Nika J, Tomma, Bacho, Cobert, Gacha Bakradze, Luna989 and Misho Urushadze - will play music non-stop. Children will be able to enjoy thematic games, in particular, they will be taught how to pack suitcases for traveling and will be provided with information on the state border crossing. At 15:00, the public project "Conduct us" will begin and a puppet opera will be performed. At 18:00, the Georgian group The Black Marrows will perform, while a concert of well-known European music will be held at the end of the day.On March 27, the Georgian and the EU flags will be lit up and a grand gala concert will be held in the European Square artists. At the end of the concert, which will start at 21:00 and two hours, celebratory fireworks will be displayed.
