The amount of damage inflicted by heavy rain to Georgia’s western Samegrelo region is being calculated. Special Headquarters is working in 24-hour regime. The rain destroyed a bridge in Akhuti village, Chkhorotsku district. Traffic movement is prohibited across the bridge. The village is cut off the rest of the region. Locals have to walk 20 kilometers to get to the village. Agriculture plots are flooded. Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regional Governor and Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure inspected the situation in the region.

Two years passed after June 13, 2015, deadly flooding in Tbilisi. Twenty-one people dead, 2 missing and more than 1000 victims – this is result of the natural disaster that hit Georgia’s capital 2 years ago. Facilities to make alarm about feasible disaster are now installed in Vere Gorge. The stations detect water level, hit landslides and transfer signals to relevant services. Houses, roads, bridges, tunnels and communication systems were damaged. Mziuri territory and Tbilisi Zoo were destroyed. Majority of animals of the zoo was killed in the flooding. Infrastructure was damaged including Vake-Saburtalo new highway, section of Tskneti road. The amount of inflicted damage reached 100 million GEL.

Three villages of Gurjaani district, eastern Kakheti region – Chandari, Vejini and Dzirkoki – have been hit by hailstorm for already the second time this month.
