Orthodox Church celebrates Octave Day of Easter or Low Sunday Today. Liturgy is being delivered in all Temples and Churches today.Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II is being delivered liturgy in St. Trinity Temple today. The first Sunday after Easter is known as renewal of the resurrection. From this Week and each Sunday after this is updated as a celebration and is devoted to the Lord. That’s why the orthodox Christians gather in the church every Sunday.

Today is Easter – the central religious holiday in the Christian liturgical year. Festive liturgies on this occasion were held at all active churches across Georgia last night. The Holy Fire that came down from Christ’s Sepulture in Jerusalem, was brought to Tbilisi late last night. The fire was distributed among all churches from where people could take it home and try to keep it lit during the whole year.

Christendom world Celebrates Easter. According to Christian scripture, Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion on Easter Sunday.Festive liturgies on this occasion were held at all active churches across Georgia last night. The divine church service began at St. Trinity temple at 11 PM and was conducted by Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II. The Easter Epistle of the Patriarch was then read out. The believers were celebrating Easter during the whole night. The Holy Fire that came down from Christ’s Sepulture in Jerusalem, was brought to Tbilisi late last night.

Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II released traditional Easter Epistle on the occasion of Easter. It was read to believers at the Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral in Tbilisi.The Patriarch focused on the several issues. He talked about the sins and regret. Ilia II also underlined the problems concerning to despair and suicide.

Today is Holy Friday, also known as Red Friday, a day when Orthodox Christians commemorate crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This day is the hardest among the days of Holy Week that precede Easter Sunday. No services are conducted at temples as a sign of respect to Jesus Christ’s sacrifice to save mankind. The symbolic ritual of removal of Jesus Christ’ body from the cross was performed by Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II at Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral. Some of those who are fasting only eat bread and drink water or do not eat anything at all for the entire day. Eggs are painted red and Paska, special Easter bread, is made on this day. The egg is a symbol of eternal life, as living beings are born from them. The red color symbolizes blood, as Jesus Christ blessed the living with his blood.

The Georgian Orthodox Church marks the 100th anniversary of restoration of Autocephaly. Catholicos Patriarch of all Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II gave a solemn liturgy at Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta town. The cathedral is known as the burial site of Christ's mantle and was the site of coronation and burial of the kings of Georgia. The original church was built in the fourth century under King Mirian II of Kartli.The Georgian Church was initially under the See of Antioch until 1010, when the Catholicos of Kartli was elevated to the honor of patriarch. The Russian imperial court abolished the Georgian Church’s autocephaly in 1811, and its patriarchal rule, and reduced it to an exarchate subordinated to the Russian Holy Synod.After the abdication of Royal Martyr Tsar Nicholas II, Georgia’s bishops restored their Church’s autocephaly on March 25, 1917. The first new patriarch of the Georgian Church was Catholicos-Patriarch Kirion II. The Russian Church recognized this already-existing independence on October 31, 1943, and the Patriarchate of Constantinople on March 3, 1990.

Based on decision of Holy Synod Chkondidi Mitorpolit Petre Tsaava was dismissed from the post of the head of the television of the Patriarchate and reprimanded him due to his recent statements.According to the ruling, the Mitorpolit Petre voiced his positions during the session; however Synod members did not support him.According to the decision, father Giorgi Mamaladze’s case was discussed at the meeting of the Holy Synod among other issues. “The Holy Synod trusts the investigation and hopes that it will be carried out in a transparent way”, - the decision of Synod reads.
