Georgia’s Patriarch of All Georgia christened 770 infants

The ceremony of mass baptizing of infants, took place on January 19, Epiphany, at Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral in Tbilisi. Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia has baptized 770 infants.The tradition was founded in 2008 and this year it will be a continuation to baptize every third or more newly born child of a married couple.

Georgia’s Patriarch, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II will hold Christmas church service tonight. This is the decision of Patriarch. Patriarch’s doctor Tsisana Shartava said that doctors were advising him not to hold a night service, but they retreated after the patriarch's decision. "The Patriarch's condition is better. He remains under medical supervision", doctor said.Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II will hold a Christmas service at Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II has turned 84 today. Birthday activities have been postponed due to health condition of the Patriarch. He remains under care of doctors. Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili wished happy birthday to the Patriarch. "I wish happy birthday with the greatest love and respect to His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II.His entire career and life is dedicated to the service of the nation and homeland. He has always been an example of humility, generosity, patience, tolerance and love. I wish him a long life and health", - Prime Minister's statement reads.

A Holy Synod session will be held at the Patriarchate of Georgia today.Issues of discussion are unknown yet. However, according to reports, along with other topics the issues of celebrations the Enthronement Day of Georgia’s Catholicos Patriarch and birth anniversary will be discussed.Also, controversy among the clergies is reported to be discussed as well.The session will be headed by Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II. The decision of the Synod will be announced after the session.

The Orthodox Christendom marks Day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the patron of Georgian Church, today. Divine Liturgy is being delivering regarding this day. Born in Asia Minor, St. Nicholas was favored by God with the power of miracles. He was a beloved Bishop in the Church. He used his inheritance to provide dowries for three sisters who were about to be sold into slavery due to their family's poverty. He is famous for his love for children. He is credited with several miraculous rescues of sailors at sea. He participated in the Council of Nicea in 325, until he was ejected for slapping Arius on the face. After a period of penance, he was restored to office. He is called ‘Wonderworker’ for his miracles, which he performed and still performs, both during his life and afterward. The remains of St. Nicholas now repose in Bari, Italy, having been transported there in 1087 AD. St. Nicholas Day is marked twice a year, on May 22 and December 19.

Orthodox Church celebrates the day of Virgin Mary’s induction to church today. Liturgy is being  delivered in temples today regarding this day. Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia the Second  will deliver a spacial church service at Sioni Cathedral. Parents of Virgin Mary, Joachim and Anna remained childless during 50 years – years of prayer and hope against all hope – before Anna was able to bear, in her old age. She promised God that she would endow her daughter to God. Angel Gabriel annunciated her that she would have daughter – Mary. Her daughter would become the Mother of our Lord Savior. Therefore, Mary has been, ever since her conception, the fruit of a long awaited and marvelous expectation, and of a miracle of God. Marry was brought up at home for 3 years. Parents took her to Jerusalem temple.

Georgian Orthodox Church marks the day of Saint George’s torture on November 23. Saint George is considered to be the patron saint of the Georgian nation. The Georgian people especially love him. He was tortured at the age of 30. In 303 AD he was beheaded according to the decree issued by Emperor Diocletian. Orthodox Church marks Saint George’s day twice a year: on May 6 and on November 23.

He will hold liturgy at St. George Georgian Church in connection with Saint George Say marked on November 23 this evening and then meet with representatives of Georgian Diaspora. Ilia II arrived in Moscow on November 18 on the occasion of 70th jubilee of Russian Patriarch. He will be back to Georgia on November 25.

As Russian Patriarchate’s webpage reads, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness Ilia II arrived in Russia yesterday where he will participate in the events held in relation to Russia Patriarch’s 70th jubilee. Akhaltsikhe and Tao-Klarjeti Archbishop Teodore, Zugdidi and Tsaishvili Archbishop Gerasime, Gori and Samtavisi Arhbishop Andria, Archimandrite Davit Chincharauli, Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze, Achpriest Aleksandre Galdava, and nun Aleksandra Iasibashi are together with Ilia II taking part in the visit. A joint service will be conducted on November 20. Russia’s Patriarch will receive a solemn reception after the service. On November 23 Ilia II will conduct a service in a Georgian church of Moscow. In the evening he will meet with the Georgian Diaspora. The Patriarch will return to Georgia on November 25 together with his delegation.

Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II will visit Russia. The Patriarch, together with members of the Georgian Orthodox Church delegation, will take part in the festive events dedicated to the Russian Orthodox Church leader's 70-year-old jubilee on November 18-24. Various delegations of autocephalous churches will arrive in Moscow for the event. Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II will take part in a joint church service together with Russian Patriarch Kirill and other Patriarchs on November 20.Prior to departing for Russia, the Patriarch of Georgia will attend the first session of the Parliament.

Patriarchate comments on fire at Vardzia complex

Georgian patriarchate commented about the recent fire at Vardzia cave monastery complex. In an official statement, the patriarchate tagged the viewpoint, according to which the fresco of 12th century of Tamar Mepe would not be restored, as not accurate. The patriarchate said based on the conclusion of specialists sent to Vardzia that restoration of the fresco to the condition as it was before the fire is quite possible. Also based on the statement, Patriarchate expresses readiness to participate in resolution of all problems together with the specialists.

Namaz ritual passed without incidents in Mokhe village, Adigeni district of Kvemo Kartli region today. Muslim locals prayed outside the disputable building during 15 minutes. Officers of Patrol Police ensured security. The territory was fenced by a yellow lace. Muslims demand allocation of a building to pray. A Religious Issues Commission began studying the issue two years ago but no decision has been made for the time being. Georgian Public Defender also calls on the government for making timely resolution of the issue. Christian locals accuse Muslims of having violated an agreement reached in 2014 based on which none of the sides had to have claims over the disputable territory before the decision of the Commission.
