Three detained over Batumi March 11-12 protests

Three people have been additionally detained in connection with Batumi March 11-12 protests within the framework of ongoing investigation. Georgian PM opens C Hepatitis center in Zugdidi

The C Hepatitis management center has begun functioning in Zugdidi town of western Samegrelo region starting today. Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili opened the center together with Georgia’s Health Minister Davit Sergeenko and U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly. Full spectrum of services will be offered at the center. PM congratulated Zugdidi population on the event adding any residents of breakaway Abkhazian territory having neutral passports will be able to benefit from the center-provided services. “35 000 people have already got treatment service. 25 000 has finished the course, reached the 98% recover. This is very good. It is also important that the center will serve to those with neutral passports living on breakaway Abkhazia’s territory. The U.S. government and Gilead Company took this factor into account and made treatment available for them,” Kvirikashvili said. Tbilisi was the first place where the C Hepatitis Center was initially opened. Zugdidi hosts the second one. Zugdidi municipality was selected as the virus indicator is high there.

Prime Minister visits Maltakva

Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili inspected ongoing rehabilitation process of Maltakva coastline in Poti town of Samegrelo region. One part of the 7-kilometer-long beach is already arranged. The cost of the project is 18.500.000 GEL. The project is financed from Fund for Regional Projects. The works will be completed till 2018.

Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili congratulated the Azeri fellow citizens on the public holiday Novruz Bayram in Marneuli town of Kvemo Kartli region. Prime Minister addressed the population of Marneuli from the city center and congratulated them on the spring holiday. As Kvirikashvili said in his speech, today's celebration unites everyone in one big family."We are together building a strong country, our homeland, our Georgia and we stand together during hardship and joy. I am sure that our future generations will hold hands to build a better future of our country. I am very pleased that we have such a wealth - our Azerbaijani compatriots. I am also glad that would retain close ties with Azerbaijan, our friendly and brotherly country. Eight people detained over Batumi developments

Eight people have been detained in relation to March 11-12 Batumi developments, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs reports. Charges have not been presented to them yet. As reported by the ministry the detainees are accused according to the 225th and 353rd articles of Georgia’s Criminal Code that envisages attacking police officers, or other governmental representative or public institution. Six people were detained earlier and sentenced to pretrial detention. One underage was released yesterday in exchange for 3000-GEL bail.

Batumi City Court is discussing the case of 6 people detained during the March 12 protest in Batumi, Adjara region. There is one juvenile among the detained. They are charged for organizing mass disorder, attack on public institutions and disobedience to the police. Tsiala Katamadze, a representative of Georgian Public Defender’s Office visited 5 detainees in pre-detention cell. Katamadze said that the detainees had no claims against law-enforcers and did not confirm the fact of discriminative attitude. Public Defender’s Office is monitoring investigation into the case.

Davit Rakviashvili, Secretary of Georgian National Security Council visited Khurvaleti village, which is adjacent to the occupation line and monitored the situation on the ground. Rakviashvili talked to family members of those, who live beyond the barbed wires and inquired about problems that they are facing. According to Rakviashvili, Russian actions have gone beyond the steps aimed at destabilizing the situation in Georgia. The Security Council Secretary made the statement when commenting about the integration of the so-called South Ossetian armed forces with the military units of the Russian Ministry of Defense.According to Rakviashvili, Russia's actions are illegal. "All these actions are illegal. As for the military component, it is aimed not only at destabilizing the situation in Georgia. Of course, the Russian militarization has already gone beyond the scope of the national threat and is aimed at reaching the Black Sea area. All this, any such military action, is directed directly against the European security architecture", - said the Security Council Secretary.Also today, Secretary of National Security Council laid wreath at the memorial of heroes who died during the 2008 war in Shindisi village.

Mghebrishvili inquired about the latest information regarding ongoing investigation activities into March 12 protest in Batumi and gave instructions to law-enforcers. Beso Kaladze, a former member of Free Zone organization links March 12 developments in Batumi city to the interests of former president Mikheil Saakashvili. Kaladze claims that the conflict was a part of the scenario plotted by National Movement Party that aimed at causing destabilization in the country. He said he had had the information since September, 2016.“Those who acted against the statehood should be punished,” Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said during the governmental sitting when commenting about March 12 protest in Batumi city. Kvirikashvili said that the protest was likely planned. He also thanked law-enforcers for ‘measured and careful reaction.’

Three women detained at ‘Abkhazian administrative border’

Seven out of 40 arrested persons still remain in pretrial custody.  The rest of them have bee released under subscriptions, however the legal procedures on their cases underway.The court gave a verbal warning to one arrested under aged person and released him from the court hall.
