Reconstruction of Tskneti-Betania road launched

Reconstruction of Tskneti-Betania road section damaged by landslide during June 13, 2015 deadly flooding in Tbilisi has been launched. The project is financed by European Investment Bank. Georgian companies are carrying out the works. Geologic inspection of the road section will continue in the future.

Shepherd abducted form Adzvi village

Russian soldiers abducted Eldar Gundishvili, 68-year-old shepherd from Adzvi village, Gori district of Shida Kartli region. The man was shepherding the cattle together with two other villagers when he was detained. His friends managed to escape. Reportedly, Gundishvili is kept at Tskhinvali pre-detention isolator.

Conflict at Enguri Bridge

Protest was held at Enguri Bridge by family members of Achiko and Paata Rogavas, Georgian citizens being kept at Drand Prison in occupied Abkhazia region. Protesters tried to block the bridge but law-enforcers prevented them from doing so that was followed by a physical clash. Paata Rogava’s wife felt bad and was transferred to a hospital. Protesters claimed that Georgian government had instruments to release the persons detained on April 5 at the occupational line. They are imposed 2-month pre-trial imprisonment.

Reconstruction of damaged infrastructure to begin in Guria region

Hydroelectric power cascades will be built on the Samkuri River in Kakheti.The preparation works for constructing two hydro power plants have already launched in Pankisi Gorge.The locals positively evaluate the possibility of creating new jobs, but they are demanding to take into account the ecological threat.The project has already been introduced to the population. Ukrainian Foreign Minister visits Khurvaleti village

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, being on an official visit in Georgia, visited Khurvaleti village, which is adjacent to the occupied Tskhinvali region. “Here I feel the same as I do near the occupation line in Russia-occupied Donbas. I have the same feeling when visiting Ukrainian villages near the separating line. Unfortunately, Ukraine still sees shots every night. Our heroes have fallen. Some of them have died. I would like to show special respect to those fighting against aggression, Georgia’s independence and freedom,” Klimkin has said. “We, having the same challenges and threats should fight together,” Ukrainian FM has added. Klimkin became introduced with the situation after August 2008 Georgia-Russia war and talked to Vanishvili family members living beyond the barbed wires.

Kvemo Kartli governor resigned from the post

The post of Kvemo Kartli regional governor is vacant. After three years of work Paata Kizanishvili resigned from the post. Already former high-ranking official explains that it is his own decision and plans to continue his activities in the Special State Protection Service.  It’s unknown yet who will replace him to the post. Whether or not the staff reshuffles will continue in other regions before the self-governance elections is unknown yet. However some members of parliamentary majority do not rule out the staff changes in the Cabinet of Ministers.

Today is Easter – the central religious holiday in the Christian liturgical year. Festive liturgies on this occasion were held at all active churches across Georgia last night. The Holy Fire that came down from Christ’s Sepulture in Jerusalem, was brought to Tbilisi late last night. The fire was distributed among all churches from where people could take it home and try to keep it lit during the whole year.

Dariali Hydro-Electric Power Station officially opened

Dariali Hydro-Electric Power Station, having the highest sustainable capacity and the biggest station in the history of independent Georgia, has officially been opened in Kazbegi town. The 108-megawatt hydroelectric power plant will produce electricity, which amounts 5% of power out of total domestic consumption by the Georgian population. Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and governmental members opened the important power station for energy independence and security.PM noted that Dariali hydro electric power station is the most powerful plant and distinctive with its design, which has laid the foundations of construction of other power plants in Georgia. "It is a unique plant in the history of independent Georgia. It is the largest hydroelectric power plant not only in Georgia, but also in the region,” Kvirikashvili claimed. According to Kakha Kaladze, Minister of Energy, the power station will contribute to the country's economic development, as well as energy independence. Kaladze said that there were destructive forces in the country that were trying to portray the country's economic development in dark colors, but it would not work. He said no one and nothing could stop the progress and development led by the government together with people.
