Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili hosted Prime Ministers of Hungary Viktor Orban at the Governmental Administration today. Prime Ministers held a face-to-face meeting. The main topics of the meeting were political relations, deepening cooperation in the trade and economic spheres and Georgia's integration with the European Union.The sides noted that for many years strong and successful cooperation has been established between Georgia and Hungary.During the conversation, attention was paid to the investments and the growing interest of Hungarian companies in the projects planned in Georgia. Why International Monetary Fund (IMF) reduced prognosis for Georgia’s economic growth? “Moambe” News Program of First Channel talked to Francois Painchaud, IMF Resident Representative in Georgia to obtain the answer to the question. National currency gaining value

The Georgian national currency Lari is gaining value. USD price has become 2.3896 GEL. The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) has set a new exchange rate based on which starting today, 1 USD will cost 2.3896 GEL while the previous rate was 2.3915 GEL. The new exchange rate of euro is 2.5418 GEL while previously it was 2.5357 GEL. It will also take effect today.

The International Monetary Fund has approved a new three-year program (285 m USD). The importance of this decision was discussed by the Prime Minister of Georgia at today's Government meeting. According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the IMF program, in its entirety, stems from the Georgian Government's four-point reform agenda. The Head of Government thanked the Finance Minister for his efforts in this direction."It is a result of continuous hard work on the part of the Finance Minister in cooperation with the economic team. The Finance Ministry has invested much effort, and this program is most important in the implementation of our declared reforms under the four-point plan, especially its spatial planning component. The approval of this program means the green light from international financial institutions to proceed with our declared plan for the next three years, so everything will be implemented and become a reality. It also means that fiscal discipline and the country's financial management must be exemplary. I would like to commend the coordinated work of the National Bank in this regard. Important positive dynamics are evident in the country's economy, at both macroeconomic and microeconomic levels. We are obligated to maintain and further propel these dynamics. The approval of the IMF program is a very positive signal for investors working in Georgia," - Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated.
Export increased by 30% in January-March in comparison with last year

National Statistical Service reports that 30 percent more products have been exported from Georgia to the foreign market in comparison with the results of the same period of the last year. The export amounts to 576 million USD.According to the Service, the import has been increased by 15 percent and it amounts to 1 billion 708 million USD.Foreign trade turnover is 2,285 billion USD, 18 percent more than last year. Negative foreign trade balance maintained 50 percent level.

About 10 billion dollars will be spent on infrastructure projects in 2017-2020, - Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said at the presentation of the action plan for the country's infrastructure development in 2017-2020.As Kvirikashvili said, the country's infrastructure development plan provide for implementation of 2500 projects. "2500 project provides construction and reconstruction of 1000 kilometers of roads and 24-hour water supply for additional 500 thousand people, as well as the resolution of the problem of landfills and many other important issues.We are carrying out an unprecedented amount of investment for these 2500 projects. About 10 billion dollars will be spent on infrastructure projects in 2017-2020. I want to thank all international donor organizations for their support," - said Giorgi Kvirikashvili.The Prime Minister noted that the projects would bring new infrastructure, new jobs and financial well-being to the country.

Dariali Hydro-Electric Power Station, having the highest sustainable capacity and the biggest station in the history of independent Georgia, has officially been opened in Kazbegi town. The 108-megawatt hydroelectric power plant will produce electricity, which amounts 5% of power out of total domestic consumption by the Georgian population. Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and governmental members opened the important power station for energy independence and security.PM noted that Dariali hydro electric power station is the most powerful plant and distinctive with its design, which has laid the foundations of construction of other power plants in Georgia. "It is a unique plant in the history of independent Georgia. It is the largest hydroelectric power plant not only in Georgia, but also in the region,” Kvirikashvili claimed. According to Kakha Kaladze, Minister of Energy, the power station will contribute to the country's economic development, as well as energy independence. Kaladze said that there were destructive forces in the country that were trying to portray the country's economic development in dark colors, but it would not work. He said no one and nothing could stop the progress and development led by the government together with people.

Export of draught wine may be banned from Georgia

Draught wine export may be prohibited from Georgia. As reported by National Wine Agency Director Giorgi Samanishvili, the private sector has raised the initiative, backed by National Agency of Wine and Ministry of Agriculture. Samanishvili believes that the amendment will be approved by the parliament. According to him, up to 50 million bottles were exported in 2016. 500 000 out of them were pouring wine. It means the export share is very low. Therefore the wine is less attractive for wine companies.

Number of international travellers increased by 13.1% in March

According to the data of March, 2017, 511 045 international travellers have visited Georgia. It exceeds the previous year’s same period’s data by 13.1% (59 308). According to the National Tourism Administration of Georgia, the number of foreign tourists that have passed 24 hours and more in Georgia was 219 642. The number was 48 807 less in March, 2016. Most visits were implemented from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Russia and Iran.
Economic growth increases by 4.8%

It is significantly higher than the data of the same period of the previous year.Last year, GDP growth reached to 1.7%.
