EU market already open to Black Sea fish and fish products from Georgia

The EU has added Georgia to the list of the countries from which it’s possible to export the Black Sea fish and fish products, - Georgia’s Minister of Agriculture Levan Davitashvili and EU Ambassador to Georgia Janos Herman told journalists. According to the Minister, the next stage envisages presentation of recognized business-operators’ list to the European Commission. Afterwards the business operators will be able to export the Black Sea fish and fish products to the EU market. As reported, auditor-inspectors of -Directorate General Health and Food Safety and Food and Veterinary office visited Georgia to conduct the audit at the scene. The mission has studied the food safety legislation, procedure of control and its results. The mission has offered recommendations according to which Georgia’s Ministry of Agriculture has elaborated the working plan and conducted relevant activities. As a result of all this, Georgia has been added to the list of the third countries from where export of the Black Sea fish and fish products are allowed to the EU.Reportedly, the Black Sea fish is the third product that will be presented at the EU market after wool and honey.
Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to finance Batumi by-pass road construction

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will finance construction of Batumi by-pass road. The agreement was signed on June 17 during the annual meeting of Board of Directors ongoing in South Korea. Dimitri Kumsishvili, First Vice-Prime Minister and AIIB President signed the agreement. A total of USD 114 million will be allocated for co-financing of the project, which aims at lessening traffic from transit transport in Batumi.
Georgia’s internal debt increased

Georgia’s state internal debt has increased by 500,4 million GEL for the last 1 year. Based on the information of Finance Ministry, the credit balance in May 2016 was 2 billion 154 million and 757 thousand GEL. In May 2017, the amount of debt reached 2 billion 655 million and 160,800 GEL.

We have made a decision to address to the Constitutional Commission in order to add a passage in the Constitution according to which the Georgia’s agricultural land plots will not be sold to those having no Georgian citizenship, - Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili made the regarding statement at the government session today.According to Kvirikashvili, the decision was made through consultations, in which the government members and the parliamentary majority participated.Fixing land alienation issue in the Constitution directly echoes the demands of the largest majority of our citizens - Kvirikashvili said.
Renewed 5 GEL banknotes to be put in circulation starting September 1

The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) will release and put into circulation 5 GEL renewed banknotes starting September 1, 2017, - National Bank President declared at a press-conference today. “Renewing process of national currency continues. New 5-GEL ones will be added to the 20, 50 and 100 GEL banknotes. The renewed 5 GEL will be used from September 1 together with old ones,” he said. As reported, Bacha Malazonia is the 5 GEL designer.

As first indicators show at this moment, the International Monetary Program is successfully underway and the economy may develop faster than it is planned, - Anthony De Lannoy, IMF Executive Director declared after a meeting with Georgia’s Finance Minister Dimitri Kumsishvili. According to Georgia’s Finance Ministry, the IMF CEO is holding a business visit to Georgia. The parties have referred to the three-year cooperation program as well as existing progress. ‘It has been remarked that the fund program, unanimously approved by International financial organization’s board on April 12, 2017 is based on the four-point plan of Georgia’s government. It has also been emphasized that the issues envisaged by the program are implemented without any obstacle and according to the plan,’ Ministry reports.
