Gala-Concert dedicated to 100th jubilee of Tbilisi Conservatoire to be held

A Gala-Concert dedicated to the 100th jubilee of Tbilisi State Conservatoire will be held on May 25 at Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater. The concert will be also held on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day. Graduates of musical institutions and laureates of international competitions and festivals as well as Georgian musicians leading their activities abroad will participate in the concert. The Tbilisi Vano Sarajishvili State Conservatoire turned 100 on May 1. The jubilee festival lasted during one month.

The season of Black Sea Arena was opened by a legendary rock group Aerosmith.Members of a legendary rock group held a concert in Shekvetili resort of Georgia’s Guria region yesterday.Aerosmith presented Hour and a half-long program and performed almost all the famous hits.Aerosmith arrived in Georgia within its European tour. 10 000 people attended the concert.

Premiere at Cannes 2017 Festival

The premiere of “Jupiter’s Moon” of Hungarian film-maker Kornél Mundruczó was held at Cannes 2017 Film Festival. Georgian actor Merab Ninidze plays the main part in the film. The film is about the story of a Syrian refugee from Homs who is trying to make his way into Hungary from Serbia, along with his father and many other wretched souls. They are all caught, and find themselves in a web of cynicism and corruption.

Play with participation of inmates held at Rustaveli Theater

The play “12 Angry Men,” a 1957 American courtroom drama film adapted from a teleplay, with participation of prisoners was held on stage of Rustaveli Theater last evening.  The play unites 18 inmates including foreigners. The scenery and music were produced by prisoners. The theater troupe was established at #17 Penitentiary Facility. Prime Minister, governmental members and Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude attended the play.

Cannes Film Festival 2017 to be opened on May 17

Cannes Film Festival 2017 will be held from May 17 to May 28. The Spanish film director and screenwriter, Pedro Almodovar, will preside as the President of the Jury and actress Monica Bellucci will host the opening and closing ceremonies. This year, the film lineup includes 49 films from 29 countries. Titans of the industry will be throwing their name in for the coveted Palme d’Or prize including Sofia Coppola, Noah Baumbach, Todd Haynes, Michael Haneke, and Michel Hazanavicius. The festival will even feature television shows, though they will not be part of the competition. The second season of “Top of the Lake” by Jane Campion and a few episodes of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” revival series will also be previewed.

A presentation of logo and slogan of Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) was held in Kiev, Ukraine. Sergi Gvarjaladze, Head of Eurovision Project, TV Project Manager of European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Mariam Mamadashvili, winner of 2016 JESC answered questions of the international mass media representatives. Georgia will host 2017 JESC in November. The slogan of the festival will be “Shine.” The 15th JESC will be held on November 26 at Tbilisi Sports Palace.

Georgia to Shine Bright for Junior Eurovision 2017

Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), today revealed the inspirational theme of the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC), which will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia: Shine Bright. The announcement came from the International Exhibition Centre in Kyiv, where preparations are well under way for the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017.Shine Bright is the central message for this year’s event and is complimented by a creative logo design based around a segmented sun, bursting with colours and expression. The brand new slogan and artwork for the event gives an insight into Georgian culture and celebrates the artistic potential and creative drive of the young JESC participants who will be announced later in the year.The colourful flare of the logo symbolises the diversity and joy associated with the power of music. Concept and Art Director of Saatchi&Saatchi, Luka Ivanidze said "We created this symbol from sunny Georgia, hoping that it will strengthen each participant of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and inspire them to shine."This will be the third time Georgia has won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest after victories came in 2008, 2011 and 2016. Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Family of Events, Jon Ola Sand said: "The Song Contest is designed to give children their moment to shine and an opportunity to showcase their full potential as young artists; this year’s theme encapsulates that feeling perfectly. SOU 2017 – International Festival of Modern Music and Visual Art begins in Tbilisi. “Another Sea” is the title of the festival this season. Georgian artist Tete Noise and his string quartet will perform on Tbilisi Circus arena on May 15. The wrapping up concert will be held on July 5 at Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater. Vocaloid Opera – “The End” will be presented for the audience. Organizers of the festival introduced the program to representatives of the mass media earlier this afternoon.

Dito Tsintsadze to produce film about Shindisi Heroes

Georgian film director Dito Tsintsadze will produce a film about Shindisi Heroes. The film will be based on a true story. Irakli Solomonashvili is working on the scenario. Leading actors Merab Ninidze, Dato Bakhtadze and Ia Sukhitashvili are selected to star in the film. Negotiations are ongoing with John Malkovych. Shooting of the film will begin in August. On 11 August, 2008, a 17 member detachment of Georgian soldiers bumped into Russians in the village Shindisi. The Russians were several times more in number, Russian soldiers offered Georgian to surrender, but they refused.The uneven battle between Georgian and Russian soldiers continued for some hours. Georgian inflicted great damage on the Russians. After only 2 Georgians were left alive, they preferred to blow themselves up over being hostages.

The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) continues collection of books within the framework of campaign “Books from Georgia for Emigrants.” Parliament of Georgia joined the campaign. The books will be sent to Turkey, Greece, Ukraine, Poland and Italy. The campaign was launched upon the request of emigrants. Georgian writers, sportsmen and businesspersons are already participating in the campaign.
