Tako Gachechiladze won the Georgian National Final. Gachechiladze will represent Georgia in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Keep The Faith. The winner was decided by a combination international jury and public votes. Keep The Faith was written by Tako herself and will be the 10th Georgian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest.The 2017 ESC will be held in Kiev's International Exhibition Centre. The semi-finals will take place on Tuesday 9 and Thursday 11 May, with the grand final on Saturday 13 May.

Tako Chachechiladze will present Georgia at 2017 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) with the song “Keep the Faith.” The winner of the Georgian national final was revealed on January 20 at Tbilisi Big Concert Hall by the audience and international jury. Gachechiladze received 122 points. The money collected from SMS voting during the Georgian national final was transferred to Dimitri Tsintsadze Charity Fund. Twenty-five contenders performed on stage of Tbilisi Big Concert Hall. The voting procedure lasted during 15 minutes. The national final was aired live by First Channel of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) starting 20:00. Gachechiladze will present Georgia at the 62nd 2017 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Kyiv, Ukraine. Semi-finals will be held on May 9 and 11. The Final will take place on May 13. Georgia first participated in ESC in 2007.

Presentation of first volume of Ekvtime Takaishvili’s essays

A presentation of the first volume of essays by Ekvtime Takaishvili, Georgian historian and archaeologist was held at Academy of Sciences today.  The book includes materials about expeditions and researches conducted in Tao-Klarjeti (current territory of Turkey), photos and charts. Publication of additional 11 volumes is planned. The first volume was published by “Artanuji” Publishing House with support of Tbilisi City Hall.

Monument of Nato Vachnadze opened

A monument of legendary Georgian actress Nato Vachnadze was opened in front of Mikheil Tumanishvili Theater in Tbilisi. The monument is sculptured by Levan Vardosaidze. Vachnadze was a Georgian film actress. She started her career in the silent film era, usually playing the screen character of an Ingénue, an innocent and passionate young woman. She continued to work as an actress during the sound era until her death in a plane crash in 1953. One of the first film stars of the Soviet Union she received numerous honors, including the title of People's Artist of the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic and the Stalin prize.

Restored painting by Pirosmani "Sviri" exhibited at National Gallery

 Restoration of “Sviri” the work of Niko Pirosmani, Georgian primitivist and self-taught painter, has been completed. The painting has been exhibited at the National Gallery today.After 39 years, for the first time the visitors are able to see the painting, which has not been at display since 1978, due to serious damages. Restoration works have been conducted by Nana Managadze. Two another paintings "Hunting in India" and "Bear in Moonlit Night” are at display.

Occupied regime of Abkhazia confirms that cultural monument was damaged in Tsebelda

So-called Foreign Ministry of occupied Abkhazia confirms that cultural monument was damaged in Tsebelda village, however denies reports about construction of firing range. De-facto Ministry has released a statement which claims that information reported in Tbilisi on construction of firing range by Russian troops in the Tsebelda village is not true.So called Ministry says that there is the firing range belonging to Abkhazia’s Defense Ministry in the village where Russian troops operate. De-facto Ministry of the occupational regime responds to the statements made in Tbilisi about damaging cultural monument and claims that the information is not correct. It explains that the historical monument was really damaged during the cleaning efforts on the territory. “The special commission has already been established to study the case and assess the damage. The study results will be reported by media and available for anyone,” - reads the statement released by the so-called ministry. Occupied regime officials say that they are amazed as Tbilisi applies to UNESCO regarding the monument as Georgian troops destroyed significant monuments in 1992-93 years.

Cultural Heritage Monument destroyed in occupied Abkhazia

The Russian armed forces destroyed the 19th-century church located at the Polish historical cemetery in Tsebelda village, Gulripshi district of Georgia’s one of two occupied regions of Abkhazia in order to build a military polygon there. A fortress of Tsebelda village is also under threat. According to Genady Shinkuba, a member of de-facto Abkhazian parliament, construction works are stopped but reimbursement of damage is impossible. President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili expresses deep concern over the destruction of the 19th-century church and the Polish cemetery by the occupation forces of the Russian Federation in Abkhazia. President termed the above-mentioned as an act of vandalism, - the Presidential Administration's press service reported. “This is a purposeful act of vandalism, which violates the international law, including the 1954 Hague Convention. We appeal to the international community, UNESCO and other international organizations to make proper evaluation the illegal actions carried out by the Russian Federation on the territory of Georgia and to respond appropriately," President said. The National Cultural Heritage Agency also calls on the international community to react over the fact. Meanwhile, murder series on revenge motive are taking place at the so-called Russian FSB checkpoint in Ochamchire district of occupied Abkhazia region. The criminal situation has turned to so tense since New Year that de-facto leader of Abkhazia called on emergency sitting with law-enforcers. About 10 houses and 1 person are burnt in 2 villages of Ochamchire district.
